Stretched development of popular twin, incorporating advanced technology CFM56 engines and other improvements. First flown on 24 February 1984 and put into service by launch customer Southwest Airlines on 7 December that year.Longer and shorter derivatives added. Models now replaced by next-generation 737s. Total delivered: 1,988.
